The Broadside, “When my Father Died, My Forehead Died” is an exploration we did in Typography. We were given a list of poems from Poetry International and were told to pick one to focus our project on. Each poem was in each way unique, because they came from many different countries. The poem I chose was “When my Father Died, my Forehead Died” by Stern Zisquit and it was from Israel. This poem is about how a young girl or boy lost their father and felt as if the world was against them. However even through the distress this person has gone through they are still able to say kaddish, which is a prayer to the dead. In my broadside I wanted to create this feeling as if his or her world is crumbling down. I would consider my dad to be one of my best friends so when the person who took this photo of me, I had to almost imagine what my life would feel like without him.
